Find out what Miele’s partners and ambassadors are preparing to serve up for one the world’s most exciting Food and Wine Festivals.
Gastronomic luminaries the world over are getting set to descend ‘Down Under’ for the 2018 Melbourne Food & Wine Festival – where there’s a distinctly sustainable flavour to the diverse programme of 300 culinary events.
The Festival’s delicious hub to eat, drink and stay will be the House of Food & Wine Hotel (a first time friendly take-over of the historic Lindrum Hotel in central Melbourne) where some of the world’s best chefs will be presenting a series of sustainable food dinners – with support from Miele brand partner, Matt Stone.
As advocates of zero-waste and ethical food, chef Matt along with Jo Barrett, his cooking partner-in-crime at Oakridge in Victoria’s Yarra Valley, will be the ‘in residence’ chefs at the hotel, helping deliver dinners conceived by a line-up of international culinary superstars. Shinobu Namae of Tokyo’s L’Effervescence; Clayton Wells of Singapore’s Black Wattle and ZeroFoodprint co-founder Anthony Myint, direct from the USA, are amongst the leading chefs, restaurateurs and food movement makers delivering memorable meals with minimum carbon impact.
If Michelin star inspired, cutting edge sustainable dining isn’t enough, Matt and Jo have devised an innovative bar menu pulled straight from the Victorian regions to match local wines curated by sommeliers and cocktails created just for the Festival’s two week duration. They’ve also worked their magic on an in-room-dining menu for the Food & Wine Hotel, with classic room service dishes reimagined into sustainably sourced, modern updates. There will even be a few surprises in the mini bar.
Matt and Jo’s passion for sustainability and localism will also inspire dishes at the World’s Longest Lunch event – always an annual highlight on any foodies calendar.
Staged this year at their regional home in Victoria’s Yarra Valley, the 2018 Regional Longest Lunch set amongst the vineyards at Oakridge will take lunch guests on a food and wine journey deeply connected to the tastes of the Yarra Valley and its community of food and wine producers.
Meanwhile, internationally acclaimed chef and Miele Ambassador, Shannon Bennett, will also be a headline presenter at the 2018 Melbourne Food & Wine Festival.
A Captains of Industry dinner at his breathtaking Vue de monde restaurant will showcase his coveted list of specialist producers and suppliers that help him deliver world-renowned dining. Over five courses, guests can expect to enjoy the very best of specially grown ingredients and matched wines as well as meet the makers.
Further afield at Bennett’s Burnham Beeches in the rolling ridges of Victoria’s Dandenong Ranges, there’s the chance to meet the butcher, baker and not the candlestick maker, but resident gardener who grows so much of The Piggery Café’s menu. Famed for their incredible seasonal and locally, ethically sourced ingredients, this one-off Food & Wine Festival event –The Piggery Café Lunch – will see Shannon and his team share secrets and techniques behind creating their menu and growing the produce.
